Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique; all grappling, no striking. MUAY THAI is a form of martial art developed in Thailand. Kickboxers utilize feet, hands, knees, and elbows for striking.
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU CLASS:
- Clean WHITE gi w/belt
- Water bottle OPTIONAL:
- Mouthpiece
- Rashguard
- supports/braces/tape for any existing injuries
KICKBOXING:
- Kickboxing Uniform T-shirt (can be purchased through the school)
- Boxing gloves 16oz or bigger
- Shin/Instep pads
- Hand wraps
- Water bottle
There are no belt ranking fees or tests. At Gentle Art Dojo, we pride ourselves on our integrity. We want to make sure that when you take the skills you have learned from us, outside the school, there is no doubt about your level and your skills. We promote based on accomplishment and demonstration of the practice. If you show up and participate regularly in class, we will see the changes you are making and we will acknowledge them by way of feedback and promotion.
No, you don’t have to compete to gain rank or stay at our school. Some of our higher ranking belts have never competed in tournaments, though we have a fairly high number of students who do compete. We do encourage our students to compete if they want to, as a way to test their skills and knowledge outside of Gentle Art Dojo.
NO! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a terrific way to GET IN SHAPE. All fitness levels are accepted.
