Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is often overlooked for what it is: a kickass way to get in shape! Here’s how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can improve your strength, conditioning, and mental fortitude:
It’s a full body workout
We have a saying in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that is, “You may be in shape, but you are not in BJJ shape.” This comes up very often in the blog because it is usually the new members’ biggest concern. There is simply no better way to train every part of your body at the same time! BJJ calls for every muscle to work in unison all the way down to the muscles you may have never thought about. If you don’t believe us, come in and try out your first class for free, we promise you will be sore in muscles you didn’t know you had.
BJJ is straight cardio, but doesn’t feel like it
Some people live to workout. They enjoy pushing through the pain to have the satisfaction at the end. However, most of us do not. As incredibly important as cardio/conditioning is, many of us hate training it because of the pain that comes with it. What if I was to tell you that there is a workout that is 99% cardio based but does not feel like it? The answer to this is BJJ! BJJ is a thinking person’s game, which means that even though you may be intensely rolling or training you do not realize how hard you are actually working. You are so wrapped up in what you have to do that you forget how hard you are actually working. Why be miserable while getting fit when you could do it in a fun way?
You work your entire body and soul, without ever getting bored
Working out in the gym is amazing. In fact we recommend that along with BJJ you lift or cross-train in other disciplines. The largest downside with bodybuilding is that it only feeds your body, not your mind or soul. In Jiu Jitsu you are always learning something new. We believe that putting your heart into reaching your fitness goals will provide results you are proud of, as opposed to suffering at the gym. BJJ is an incredible workout; but it also happens to be one of the most effective martial arts in the world. Along with getting your workout you are feeding your mind and gaining knowledge. As well as being an amazing way to clear your mind and focus solely on one thing, which is hard to do in the world these days.
